My background
I am a fully qualified and very experienced self-employed
Chartered Educational Psychologist, having specialised initially
in teaching nursery/infant children, but then over the years
taught all ages from nursery to adult.
My teaching experience has included working with pupils with
special needs relating to physcial disabilities, learning
difficulties and emotional and behavioural difficulties and has
included work with Children Looked After. My specialism was in
teaching pupils with literacy difficulties and dyslexia.
Having gained a Certificate in Couple and Family Therapy, I have
worked in a clinical setting with children with a variety of needs
and difficulties and sought to find solutions by working with the
family as a whole. My caseload included children who were refusing
to go to school, children who were being bullied, and children
disturbed as a result of breakdown in family relationships.
I have also taught adults in a
variety of educational contexts, including Sixth Form College,
Further Education College and Adult Education Centre. I have
empathy with adults who are returning to education having gained
many of my additional qualifications since leaving school.
All of these experiences have provided a sound
background for my current work as an independent self-employed
Chartered Educational Psychologist. In this capacity I am able
to offer independent psychological advice for children from
pre-school to adolescent, to schools, parents and other
agencies.
This advice may be for pupils with a variety of special
needs of a learning, physical or sensory nature. It may also be
for children with emotional and behavioural needs, whose
difficulties may arise from their experiences within their homes
and families.
I also carry out psychological assessments for
teenagers and adults with Dyslexia/Dyspraxia for a variety of
purposes, including gaining special concessions such as extra
time for GCSE or A Level examinations, driving licence tests,
beauty therapy examinations, accountancy examinatiions and
so on. I also assess adults with Dyslexia/Dyspraxia in
order to advise others about the kind of support that they
will need in order to give clear and accurate evidence
in court settings.
In addition, I carry out assessments for the Disabled
Student Allowance for University students with Specific Learning
Difficulties. This is so that they may gain additional
support both within the University and also during examinations,
in order that they may achieve to the best of their abilities
despite their difficulties.
I have substantial experience of assessing both children and
adults with Dyslexia. I also have substantial experience
of assessing children and teenagers on the autistic spectrum,
including those with Asperger's syndrome and those involved in
the ABA Programmes.
